Hi all! Well, as you can see from the title, this is my first time writing a blog. My name is Kari Krug and I am originally from Saskatoon. Unlike many students, I did not go straight to University after graduating High School. This was my first year in Elementary Education at the U of R. During the 4 years between graduating High School and attending University, I lived in a few different places including Banff, the Dominican Republic and China. I pretty much knew my whole life that I wanted to be a teacher but it wasn’t until I lived in China that I fell in love with teaching. I lived there for 2 years and had some of the most amazing students a teacher could wish for. I lived in a small city in central China called Jingmen, where nobody spoke English. Although it was difficult at times (of course), I truly loved it. Teaching in a Saskatchewan classroom will be completely different from teaching English in China, but I believe it will be just as exciting.

My family and friends are very important to me. When I was 18 my mom had a baby, and normally people think it’s weird, but to me it was a blessing. My 4 year old brother means the world to me and hanging out with him is one of my favorite things to do. Dorky, I know.

When it comes to technology, I must admit I am like a lost puppy dog. Surprisingly though, as computer illiterate as I am, I rely on it very much. Anything from looking up directions, to wanting to know random things about anything and everything, I use the internet. As much as it overwhelms me at times, it also intrigues me, and I look forward to this class.

As I have previously mentioned to Alec, I got excited to use technology in classrooms after he spoke to my EPS 100 class this past winter semester. It really opens up the possibilities we have and gives us great resources that we can use in and out of the classroom. My expectations are simply to be able to better comprehend the resources provided for us, and to be able to use them to my advantage.

Here are some excited students ready to learn :)

  1. Wow Kari, it’s so amazing to see how much we have in common!.. your picture there of the chinese students almost brings tears to my eyes, isn’t it just unbelievable the whole experience, of being able to make a difference in the lives of those children, I 2 had always had an interest in teaching, but it wasn’t until I wasn’t until China that my outlook totally changed. I’d like to know more about your experience there!
