For my final project, I decided from the very beginning that I wanted to do a video. While browsing on the Internet, I kept finding more and more videos done by adults about what they think is right when it comes to integrating computers into our classrooms. I decided that it was important to get our students’ opinions, since it is their future that we are dealing with. I interviewed twenty three students ages ranging from 8 to 20, but only seven of the students were interviewed on videotape.
I asked each of the students approximately 20-25 questions, but of course, I couldn’t fit everything onto my video. So, I’d like to share some of the responses I had that you will not see on the video.
When I discussed cyber bullying, some students weren’t aware of what I was talking about. Each time I would explain it, they would become a bit shy, as if they were scared to admit that they had seen cases of cyber bullying before. The most shocking part to me, however, is that when I asked each student if their teachers talked to them about the dangers of the Internet, and cyber bullying, only one single student said that his teacher had talked about it with him and his classmates. Integration of computers into the classrooms can be an amazing thing, but we have to make sure that our students are aware and smart about what they are doing.
Another question that I asked was whether or not the media affects what they buy, and almost all of them said yes. I was surprised at the amount of things they buy because they see it on TV, or their favorite celebrity endorses it, but I probably shouldn’t have been that shocked. The media knows how to sell products!
I have to admit, that when I began this video, I had no idea what I was doing. It was only my second time using iMovie (the first time being for my Mastercard commercial) but I found it to be challenging in an incredibly fun way! I am anxious to be able to do fun things like this in my future classroom. I think this could be a great project for students to do. Interviewing people is a great way to learn new things and get different opinions.
The editing part took the longest for me, as I had hours of footage and needed to compress it into a short 5 minute video. Luckily, Kyle helped me with every question or problem that I had, and I am very thankful for that. The only tools I really used for my project are iTunes, iMovie, Flickr and a video camera borrowed from my friend Devin. I thought about using Jing, and definitely played around with it quite a bit (LOVE IT), but it didn’t seem to fit in with my project. No biggie, I am sure that I will find many different ways to use it in the future!
Although working on my video was a long process, it was enjoyable and I learnt that I am possible of many things! Projects like this would be great to use in the classrooms and really let you be creative!
Go ahead and check out my final project video. Any feedback (positive OR negative) would be awesome! Thanks.

Kari I really enjoyed your video. I thought you chose a great topic, one which needs to be addressed more frequently these days. Thanks for posting and great choice of words and music!
